Summary
Below is a brief summary on how this site may be used. If you have any further questions, please use the results.cpdn.org thread on our discussion forum. On this site you can:
- Search the available “models” — results of completed climate simulations according to your specified parameters.
- Add models to a “selection” — the equivalent of an on line shop's “cart”.
- Download all the models that you have selected.
- View all the models you have previously downloaded.
Information on each of these functions follows.
Searching
On the search page, the following options are available:
- Select parameters. Choose what to download based on the initial experimental parameters, or other available fields such as experiment id or whether or not it is a control
- Match controls/transients. Some experiments are control runs, and these will have physics parameters matching some transient runs. This option allows users to select matching runs.
- Exclude downloads. If you wish, you may exclude files that you've already downloaded from your search.
- Limit results. The number of results returned after each search can be limited. If this option is used the default limit is 20.
- Select incomplete experiments. Not all results have been returned, either because the experiment is still in progress or the data have not uploaded properly. If your research can tolerate missing values, you may select here the number of files that you feel will be sufficient.
The contents of the various classes of file are shown on the pages below [under construction]:
Viewing parameters
The experimental parameters are summarised on the parameters page. More information on them can be found on our main site at http://www.climateprediction.net/science/parameters.php. More information on the forcing scenarios can be found at http://www.climateprediction.net/science/forcing_scenarios.php.
Selecting
Your “selection” is equivalent to the “cart” of an on-line shop. You may select climate models and download the selected ones as a tar.gz archive. Available options are:
- View selection. Shows the models currently selected.
- Download selection. Commences downloading, and clears the selected list.
- Empty selection. Clears the selected list.
Downloading
At present, only 20 models may be selected at any one time for download. The models will be downloaded as a tar.gz file with a file name of random letters and digits containing a directory of the selected models.
When downloading, you may select which parts of the model's data you would like. A list detailing what information is included in each of these files will be available shortly.
Previous downloads
The names of all climate models you download are recorded. The purpose of this is to allow you to make sure that you may only download those you don't already have should you so wish. Due to bandwidth restrictions, it is not possible to download all the data in one go, requiring multiple downloads.
If necessary, you may clear the list of downloaded models or delete specific models from the list if you wish to download them again. This information will be lost permanently.
